Wednesday 29th feb.

Breakfast: A handful of raw oats and a slice of buttered toast.

Lunch: beans on toast with a fried egg.

Dinner: Beanie feast, consisting of mushy peas, baked beans and buttered beans, stirred into boiled rice.
Unfortunately the butter beans where still crunchy despite a 24 hour pre-soaking. After a while eating this dish became tolling on my jaw!

Awoke this morning feeling a lot less groggy then normal! Can it be that this diet may actually be good for me? I wouldn't be surprised if I managed to get an energy boost over the night from sleep snaking on ladybirds. They do seem to like sky bombing my face!  . . . Actually that's disgusting, no!

Well, for breakfast I had watery porridge with a spoonful of sugar (or my sugar alternate: jam).
Lunch consisted of beans on toast, and for dinner sausage pasta.

Final food confrontation was in the evening, soaking the butter beans in water in preparation for tomorrows dinner.

Day two, and beginning to notice temptations. Having watched an advertisement for the new bubble dairy milk bars, I began to desperately want chocolate! However, I managed to complete today without giving in. Horah!

Breakfast - A very watery porridge. Not the best, but contained lots of fibre and stuff. Washed it down with a nice cuppa.

Lunch - 1 slice of buttered toast (heaven after the porridge)

Dinner - A form of chilli con carne, except with no meat and extra kidney beans. Wasn't all that great . . .

Sunday 26 February 2012

First day of live below the line commenced! Felling remarkably stuffed . . .

Started the day with a slice of buttered toast with a glass of squash. Nothing to different there!

For lunch I devoured a sausage sandwich . . . if you can call what I ate a sausage. Its the type of meat served in school canteens which has a really high water content and pops when cut in half. Yummy! This was accompanied by a mug of tea and more squash.

For dinner, kidney beans stirred into a basic carbonara pasta. Not the best, but very filling!

Bring on day 2 . . .

Tuesday 21 February 2012

Last night I, with fellow team mate Teala, devised our draft shopping list. By combining our money together we have been able to fill a trolly of £14 worth of goods. We then plan to divide each product (and thus price) in half, bring our individual cost down to within our individual budget. By living of a mixture of oats, beans and Sainsbury's basics we have both come just under our £7 budget at £6.75. Together our 50p could buy us a nice sweat treat to ration, not that it is likely to last then more than a few moments!

Provided we can find the following we plan to purchase: (Remember to divide the quantity and price in half for ever item)

Sunday 19 February 2012

Within this blog I will be writing about my experiences 'Living below the line'. . .

Below the Line is an initiative organised by the global poverty project to create awareness about the 1.4 billion peoples who are living in absolute poverty around the world. For one week between the 24th of Feb and the 4th of March I shall be spending no more then £1 per day on food and drink in order to create awareness and provide people the opportunity to donate to UNICEF, my chosen charity to support. *

Every day I am going to post on here what recipes I cook up, as I attempt to be creative and healthy with only a bare minimum of supplies. I am sure that i will learn greatly from this task, as a university student, and hopefully should be able to cut my future shopping bills down a bit!

So until Sunday I shall treat everyday like pancake day; all treats and snacks must go!

* If you wish to support my chosen charity, then please visit https://www.livebelowtheline.com/me/richardsutton11 where you can make any size donation via paypal.

Until next time,

Richard.
